… hey everybody is in the class today? Can’t afford to be in the tent, haa?
(Students’ laughter)

YB: Hey tell him my walkie-talkie is off the balance. Thank you for giving me time to have a hot bath.
(Students’ laughter)
That’s why I am sweating, not that it’s very hot. I was told by Kiran to come late. Tents are blown over. My idea is that tents should be blown over everyday.
(Students’ laughter)
No, no, you don't understand. Challenge in life is a privilege for a man to test one’s own endurance and your concept of life is no challenge. Can you understand a Siri Singh SahibSiri Singh Sahib
Honorary title given to Yogi Bhajan to indicate his role as spiritual leader of Sikh Dharma in the West. His complete title within Sikh Dharma is Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji.
sitting, lying down on the bed, and open one eye and say, “Hello, how are you?” How you like that? No, no, my dear, life is just an exact challenge in the face of death because song of the Khalsa, which you sing and recite, is a very true message. Many speak of courage, what is that?
Students: (-----)
YB: It is in the face of death…
Students: (-----)
YB: There is a word must. Now what happens in the face of death if you live it? Give me the options.
Students: (-----)
YB: Haa?
Student: (-----)
YB: That is true. In the face of death, either God will come through and solve your problem or you become a martyr and you counter death and you have experience of that ecstasy, which everybody seeks. There are no two opinions about it but majority of the time when you develop an attitude, you will start living in the face of the death, the entire circuitry of the universe starts coming for you.
Today my subject is very sad subject, the “Battered woman.” You know, go to the Eskimos, they have got a big bone, and they beat their wife with that, in United States men drink up and beat up their wives, and I don't know I don't think there is any woman who has not a taste of it getting beaten or to the point of getting beaten, am I accurate in my calculation, barring few exceptions? Ha? Now could you tell me in one bottom line, why a man will like to beat a woman? Hmm? Give me your theory; I’ll give you mine.
Student: (-----)
YB: If woman pushes him too much, the only thing is that provokes violence, that’s true. Pushing too much… What is pushing too much? You know this is how it is.
Every female has a mother tendency, doesn’t matter how good and bad you are, and then you want to sit on something like a mother and you lose the beauty, the flexibility, and the logic of a female. Are you with me? If you can avoid pushing a man to the point that you get beaten up and even roughed up or being abused back and all that, first of all you must understand, this is how men do. First they will complain and they will do it jokingly, that’s the warning. When a man starts mocking or joking about a situation with you, he is telling you that he is not going to take it and that’s a serious warning, it’s not a camouflage or something. Then secondly, he is going to say, “Wait a minute, stop it.” He becomes logical with you. That’s the dirtiest argument a man… man and a logical? Unbelievable. Man and a logical? Never heard of. But they do become very logical and they try to divert your attention. Third, he is going to come out with an idea that ‘wait a minute, let us discuss, let us communicate,’ he will like to establish they call it rapport. Fourth, he will like to walk out of the house. Fifth, he will threat. Sixth, he will beat up. Seventh, he will kill you.
You do not understand man has sixteen times less tolerance than you and he does that in seven steps. And why you get beaten and you become battered or you become corrupt or you lose your values and all that? It is called a rhythm, female rhythm. You have moons, eleven moons moving through your system and if you do not correspond to move with the chakraChakra
, Chaakra
The word connotes a wheel in action. It usually refers to the seven primary energy centers in the aura that align along the spine from its base to the top of the skull. Each chakra is a center of consciousness with a set of values, concerns, and powers of action associated with it.
, that is where you are off the wall and if you find I think which ‘Woman in Training’ is the set in which all that is described? It’s a first, second, third, what?
Students: (-----)
YB: If you read the ‘Woman in Training,’ the first volume, you will find the movement of the moon in a female correspondent to the chakraChakra
, Chaakra
The word connotes a wheel in action. It usually refers to the seven primary energy centers in the aura that align along the spine from its base to the top of the skull. Each chakra is a center of consciousness with a set of values, concerns, and powers of action associated with it.
, understand with your biorhythm and your menstruation cycle, you will find it out what wrong you do.
Let me explain to you the point of view of the man. All his life he loves his mother, but she directs him. She complains to him, she talks to him. I mean to say, she raps him up. Some are good enough to spin him, some just beat him up. There is almost eleven years for a male to be under a woman and within those eleven years, a male understands she is not a perfect woman. He contrasts her, compares her, and studies her with the father. It doesn’t matter now the father is nuisance. That is where the tragedy is. A male boy will never compare the faculty of the father and faculty of the mother, when he does the comparison, he just says, “This is the father and this is mother and this is she is imperfect.” But he won’t say it. So he will keep the doubt, the grudge and the misunderstanding and will not communicate with a mother. That is where you lose the son, but start reacting. Any male boy, any male boy who will start reacting to the mother shall become a woman beater because his attitude is ‘I had it with the mother, why with you?’ And this is what I am saying, it covers seventy percent of the divorces, seventy percent of the broken homes, and seventy percent of the battered woman. This one main factor is purely psychological, and it gets played out biological.
There is another tragedy with a female, she has a haunting image, every female has a haunting image and every woman… majority of about eighty percent of you do not recognize your haunting image and maybe twenty or thirty percent may know but they say they are insensitive, but every woman has a haunting image, that image is the father, the brother, the neighborhood, the man she admirers, and all those five, six, seven, eight, get together and she creates a picture, a painting. And that is the ideal man she wants to relate to because that ideal man is about five, six, seven, eight, sometime eleven, twelve, fifteen situations, she even doesn’t know what she is looking after and looking for and the man doesn’t know what is her problem.
There are three types of men normally you will meet. One, who will like to carry you and tell you shut up. One, who likes to discuss you when they want, and one who tell you what to do and don't have ears. Now you understand the three categories? What?
Students: (-----)
YB: And third is?
Students: (-----)
YB: Now the first one is those who carry you when they start complaining, you have a bad luck on the way. They say death is waiting in the corner. A man who has the grace and nobility and the strength to like to, whether he can or not, that’s not the problem here. A man who likes to carry the woman, when he starts complaining, you are a bad news. Number two, man who wants to communicate as a woman, when start vibrating in heavy argument, you have already a problem and third is the men who do not listen to you if you have a chance to provoke them, you have the worst day in hand. But basically what I am trying to explain to you that you need to understand the man has sixteen times less sensitivity and tolerance than a female. Men also need sixteen times less security than female. Men have everything less sixteen times than a female except one thing, tell me what is that?
Students: (-----)
YB: It’s not only ego, it is called hunter’s ego. It is called conquering ego. This is the profile in our modern day society we deal with. In the old days, we did not have lot of problem because they will go and the entire men will go and leave little young kids to guard the village, all right, and then they will have either a drumbeat system or arrow system through which if there is a problem, the young male in the village will create that sign and then it will hidden sound, which will continue where the clan of the men is and they will return to defend. Normally, when they used to come back, women are gone, children are slaughtered, or everybody is gone and village is burnt. Then they go on a chase hunting and chase hunting always end up either victory on one side and this is how basically a tribe learnt to exist. Every tribe will conquer a tribe and woman is in the middle of it. You understand? And this is how they used to carry woman.
Normally the procedure was to carry woman and they take a wood and cross it like this and in the neck there is a female walking. So everybody pushes everybody, everybody walks, and their hands are tied with backward towards that wood and the children are tied with that wood also, hand backwards. And you tell me that those things are gone from your memories? No. There have been people who have those nightmares even these years.
So human development maybe considered great, and we may have B-2 Bomber and B-1 Bomber and whatever that is. We may have a colony at moon, or we maybe having a television or telephone and we can build a house in couple seconds, and do all that, but in spite of that we do have a problem. We have a deep grinded in us the past. Because our violence and our animal nature is the same. I wish we should be sophisticated, but we mostly pretend to be sophisticated. Especially in the west where woman can earn her livelihood, and she has almost the equal capacity than the male, she doesn’t tolerate the male behavior and male doesn’t tolerate her behavior, but basically she must forget not that he is sixteen times less sensitive and that’s a natural tragedy. If female happens to be less sensitive and like a man, you will never have a marriage more than one week. And it will be very religious to marry on Saturday, honeymoon on Sunday, come back on Monday, give party invitation on Tuesday, have a party on Wednesday, fight on Thursday, beat each up on Friday and separate on Saturday.
Thank God, to the grace of God that woman has that tolerance and she goes through. But the funny part of it is there are some women who get stimulated by being beaten. That thirty percent in women, there are like these thirties, thirty percent women like to get beaten and it stimulates them. Thirty percent women, twenty percent women get abused and it stimulates them and thirty percent women are those who provoke violence and like to enjoy it, it stimulates them. So it is not a one-way traffic that men are all dirty and women are good, or women are bad and men are good. Man basically has to be understood that he has sixteen percent less tolerance and that’s enough. All these marriages you are talking about in the west are here because of only one thing and that is the woman has sixteen times more tolerance and she is also needs sixteen times more security, therefore with more tolerance and more security need, she tolerates a man. Otherwise I don't think in my own study of last twenty years a western woman ever will like to be married. I think the western life will be, we will have love hotels, we will book them for four hours, like Japan.
Japan you do this or you go to a geisha woman and you will have all the stimulants and you do whatever you have to do and they don't get pregnant, you don't get pregnant, you pay x amount of money, if she gets pregnant she gives you the child or you go in a love hotel, you hire it by hour and you make love, you go north, she goes south and adios, it’s not that you are not friends, you know each other, you meet there, you have fun and you live. Yes, because it’s a traditional society, that’s very ultramodern and traditional society is woman has a home and woman has everything. But do you know in Japan thirtieth year comes, a woman is retired with full wage? That’s it.
Student: (-----)
YB: You don't have boys, you don't have boys, that’s why we here to make an effort. Our boys and our girls are neither boys nor girls. They are intermixture. Tomboys and Tomgirls, that’s what we are producing. Question is the tragedy of the whole thing is that, that’s what I am trying to reach you today. It is not what you say, it is how you say it, and this is how you say to the child. That sits in child’s memory. There are two tragic things for the child’s life, insecure mother, hello, are you with me? Insecure mother and a coward father, child is done!
Student: (-----)
YB: Because father gives him the courage and the security of life to confront life and mother gives him the basic strength of the character, and those things cannot be learnt on the television and neither in a school and nor in a country, nor in a nation. Every child is a byproduct of the mental behavior of man and woman who call themself parents. I don't blame my children, I lost them and I cannot compensate for it. I’ll not be in a position to compensate and it’s not possible because unfortunately I left them at the time when they were grown up enough to understand and they were not grown up to handle everything. And those three years they were bombarded with the treachery and with the lies and with the threats and fear, the insult, if I would have been them, I would have totally gone insane and I know it. I am not going to sit here to tell you that my children are alive. I think it’s a miracle that the all three, two sons and one daughter, they are alive, and they still say hello to me.
It is not that when I left there was something wrong, after that what followed was nothing but a disaster, it was a tragedy, it was all the hocus-pocus, they were fried, they were cooked and they were tortured. When three years later or whatever that time was, I went back, I couldn’t recognize my son will be that dark. A man who has six servants and six orderlies at home, his son as a punishment was told by this holy man what kind of holy is, God gave him one hole, to go fifteen miles everyday in the burning sun to deliver milk. I understand one should be a Saturn teacher and all that but when it becomes vindictive, it’s cruelty.
My three children were extremely vindictively were taken and tortured to break the confidence of the unity of the family and I went through it myself, I am not staying here and saying it was all God’s will. It was not. It was a human exploitation, and human help to exploit and test on the God was very, very minimal. And I tell you that what happened to me, I see it here everyday. I do see insane, unmannerful angry women, treating their children very stupidly. I do see. I do see very insane educated women putting and injecting fear in their children for future. I do see things I can’t explain to you. I do see it everyday. I do see mothers discipline their children, I don't think in the worst dungeon in the fourteenth century that might have been happening. I have seen very painfully how a mother address a child. I see mothers trying to control their children rather than nurture them, raise them and advance them in life.
“Maama Thandiya Chaava”
Mothers are the cool shade in the burning sun of the world, but here you can’t even believe it and I am not stupid and I don't say lot of things, because my guess is that one generation will come when everything will be figured out and I’ll have my say. Commotional, neurotic relationship of parents towards their children is a tragedy to me. My strength is not that I am a great yogiYogi
One who has attained a state of yoga (union) where polarities are mastered and transcended. One who practices the disciplines of yoga and has attained self-mastery.
, that’s not true. I know it and I have to say it to you. My strength is not that I am a Sikh of the GuruGuru
That which takes us from ignorance to knowledge; from darkness, gu, to light, ru. It can be a person, a teaching, or in its most subtle form - the Word.
, that’s not true and my strength is not that I am a holy man, that’s also not true and it is also not true that I am very wise and very elegant, it’s not true. My strength is, those moments in my life when my mother said, “Ang Sang Wahe Wahe Guru
, Whaa-hay Guroo
A mantra of ecstasy and dwelling in God. It is the Infinite teacher of the soul. Also called the gur mantra.
GuruWahe Guru

Guru

.” I can’t forget it.
I tell you my own story. I was working on a Pathankot-Jammu road in the construction of it, it was a kind of military project, and I was in charge of the stores division, and our job was to supply the construction supply wherever the work is and we were working on the very border of the Pakistan, so we were attacked now and then whenever they could to obstruct the construction of the road because the area was not very happy and the road was not yet very complete, but almost complete and I became almost kind of a in charge, took over the whole project, security as well as this and that and most of the senior officers left on one pretext or the other.
One day I got a telegram, my mother sent me a telegram, “feeling seriously unwell.” Now I couldn’t believe whether she is sick or she is not, I mean, she is, what is up? In those days you know there was not that we can pick up a telephone and say hello. So finally I decided that I must go back. So I went back and I saw her hale and hearty, walking tall and I got mad to myself. I said, “Mom, you sent me a false telegram?”
She said, “No, this telegram is not false, sit down and be peaceful.”
I said, “Okay, what do you want?”
She said, “Nothing, I have made the food, first you eat, then we will talk.”
So my favorite food was there and I ate and I said, “Okay, hurry up now.”
She said, “You are not going back.”
I said, “Why not?”
She said, “Over my dead body.”
I said, “Wait a minute, is this the way to arrange it?”
She said, “Yeah, you have been relieved from your duties from there.”
Because my uncle was chief engineer and everything was just a domestic, it was all done. I said, “Wait a minute, why you did this?”
She said, “I cannot live here in absolute poverty as I am but I have seen richness also that you will never be educated. Remember what your grandfather used to say? Without education man is an idiot, I won’t let you. There is a college there and I have already made the arrangements, and you got to go and register yourself tomorrow.”
Well, tomorrow eight O’ clock my mother was walking with me, can you believe that? Can you believe this? Right? And I was in Lyallpur Khalsa College, admitted already; simply I had to sign the application. I said, “Mom, how you found this out?”
She said, “They don't have a good team, you are the best. They want it, no fees, nothing; books free, whole stuff, everything perfect, taken care of. I checked it out and I know this principal too, I’ll pull his beard if he does anything wrong.”
And there I was and that’s what it is. Well, from the refugee camp we moved to Delhi and I joined the camp college and she stuck with me.
Do you know I was fifty year old when I did my PhD? Just to honor her. I couldn’t stop it. And this is what she used to say. “You are good and bad, that doesn’t matter, be the most learned and don't listen to me.”
I said, “Well, you yelled at me yesterday?”
She said, “That’s, that comes with the territory.”
And I am lucky that I had that inspiration and I am also very fortunate that I have the tolerance.
You have to deal with your children very, very, very tolerantly because your children not only are your enemies, they are provocative time bombs sitting with you minute to minute. A child can provoke you to death, which enemies can’t and as educated they are, as learned they are, as free spirited they are, they are very good in it. To handle a child is handling purkhaPurkha
The great Being of existence.

both in the face of your own totality. Child is not a small thing.
Once a mother was saying to a child, “You born out of me.”
He said, “Yes, I know everything inside.”
Do you understand that? I tell you what I saw once. A mother totally dressed up the child absolutely, beautiful, everything fantastic and she said, “Baby boy, let us go, let us go.”
And he said, “What about father?”
She said, “Oh he is not coming today. He is busy in his work.”
He said, “You will go alone without him?”
And she said, “What it matters? You know we will go and we will say hello and then we will go” and you know she was arguing. Meanwhile she also started saying, “No, no, Yogiji is here, we will tell him also, perhaps he can come with us and whole thing.”
He was so mad that his father is not coming and gracing the occasion and all that. He played a trick. While going on the road I saw it with my own two eyes, he slipped right into a mud pot and messed up his dress and when mother wanted to pick him up he threw the whole mud on her.
(Students’ laughter)
And he did such an acting, I mean the best stunt actor can’t do it and I looked there and (?) and I told her, I said, “Why don't you pick him and let’s go home back and sit and talk something and work it out you are not going anywhere.”
Later on she asked me that question, “Why he did that?”
I said, “Ask your husband. His self-esteem could not tolerate that you should go to certain place alone, period.”
“My husband allows it.”
I said, “Mom, that’s also a son. And son is a three-fourth husband. Have you realized this?”
And she said, “No.”
I said, “That’s what they are.” “The first son,” I said, “Is three fourth a husband. Minus one activity he likes to control you too because you like to control, action has equal reaction, equal and opposite reaction. You want to nurture him; he wants you to obey him. It’s all your own creation, there is no way out.”
“My husband gives me all the freedom.”
I said, “Your this son is going to put you in a dungeon.”
And I can sit here and I can tell you, she sometime has to argue about an hour to just go for a cup of tea with her lady friends. He says, “Why you are going with these ladies? They are free, they have no work, they come, they take tea, they waste time, you sit here, you make a cup of tea, give it to me, and I’ll give it to you. And we will sit and watch a good show. Let’s play game on the TV.”
He does this even today. And as the year has gone by he can now handle her also if she does not obey and father is happy like a lock. He said, “That’s I wanted. “YogiYogi
One who has attained a state of yoga (union) where polarities are mastered and transcended. One who practices the disciplines of yoga and has attained self-mastery.
, I have got a perfect commando police at home.” That’s what he says.
Four of them, one, two, three, four and they all gang up on one poor thing called mother. “Mother,” she knows it when they say mother. A loud mother means, ‘sit down on a sofa and listen to us,’ and that is how possessive they are.
Now where it came from? Father is ‘you are darling, absolutely good…’ he is a very beautiful man, he is working, he is great man, there is lot of money, no problem to him and he loves her and trusts her and she is fine and beautiful. Now that father is there, right? That lemon father they call him. They call him, “Oh papa, don't try to be banana, stand up to her.” They tell, they tell the father why she has to go.
Once they had a party, she was to go on a cruise, seven, eight, ten people, he couldn’t go. Four children were to go and she was to go, they totally got it cancelled. They stuck to their gun. They wanted to go to play softball game that week and she had to go. And that is how children pick up personality, either far or against or opposite or under and over or through certain degrees and that is how children become children and when they become men, they carry on that process and poor wife who marries him, “Palley Thandey Laagi, I am so beautiful, I am so wonderful, he is my man.” You are not marrying a man. In that man there is a two-dozen identities also.
Who gave me that beautiful artwork yesterday? Is she…
Student: (-----)
YB: Where is she?
Student: (-----)
YB: All right. You know in that beautiful face, underneath, it’s a very old art work. In that there is a female, if you look at that female you love to vomit. And it’s such a comparative study and such a powerful, what is inside our head and what is outside of us.
So I am trying to explain to you something tonight. It is all within you and within your identity how you want to live your life, how you want to raise your children. Please don't understand one thing basically wrong, which you understand always, ‘children don't know anything.’ Children do not express everything. That’s where you are blind and mistaken. Children know everything and everything, which is non-religious with you, is unsacred to them and there is no logic about it. You know why? I talk to these children. They tell me all the time, “My papaji is no good, he never gets up for sadhanaSadhana
, Saadhana
A spiritual discipline; the early morning practice of yoga, meditation, and other spiritual exercises. The Aquarian Sadhana can be an individual or group practice; Ideally, it includes the recitation of Japji Sahib, a Kundalini Yoga kriya, and chanting the Aquarian Sadhana meditations, immediately followed by Gurdwara. According to Yogi Bhajan, the potency of any Kundalini Yoga and meditation practice will be enhanced in a group setting.
, will he be all right?” You know about twenty percent children have asked me, whether the marriages of their parents will continue?
So please try to understand, it is not the battered woman or the battered man or battered parents, it’s a battered family. I am one example of the most battered family in the world. My family was not only battered, it was tortured. You look at the life. When I was posted in Amritsar, I had to send armguards for my children to go to the school for protection. When I was here their kingdom fell, and they were treated worst than the slaves. Their self-esteem was totally slaughtered, shattered, and stuck at their face. Yes, society spares nobody. It’s all right, love thy neighbor, but you know how the neighbors put all the dirt on you and your family? We should be very nice to our relatives you know how ugly they become if they find some weakness and how much they scratch you?
I still know a very beautiful religious woman; her parents won’t call her with the religious name. Is it not insanity?
World is not as round as you think it is. Therefore you have to be smart to go around it. That’s what I say ladies, that’s why I put you in this camp, that’s why I asked you to come. That’s why my whole projectiveness is. You think whatever earthly you know you are fine. That is zero. That every idiot can learn. For a woman to be a woman is an art and a science and a woman who is a woman with a art and a science, she is the queen of all queens, whether she is poor or she is rich.
… Art, through which she can maneuver the life of her own born, life of the husband, life of the home, but you have to be insecure, you have to be insecure to be gracious. You not have to be insecure to be jealous, to be idiot, to be controlling. You don't have to control anything, you have to command everything and you cannot command anything without grace, otherwise you have mutiny and rebellion at hand. It will not work. There are, like a woman, always eee eee eee eee… you hear them, they are just complaining, they are just miserable, they just create apathy and sympathy and all that stuff. Then there are woman, they are the only one who know everything, nobody else knows.
Let me ask you something, for your own private notes. Write down a profile and send it to me and I need it tomorrow. A profile how many tactics you know to manipulate a situation-physical, personal, social, economic and whatever. Write your own story. Why I am saying it that because I want you to understand once for all assess yourself and track it down who you think you are, and who really you are. Do you follow what I am saying? Give a chance, give a chance to look at yourself and figure it out who is who in you. Give me your self-analysis and self-profile and your art and tact of your manipulation. Figure it out and in the end you will find one thing very common, it’s unnecessary. You can’t stop it because you don't know it but if you spend tonight couple hours and figure it all out, it will help you. That is how I developed my intelligence. I always sit down and figure it out, how mean I am, how wrong I am, and everybody who is telling me I am a deadly bad person what is provoking in my word that I am getting any kind of reaction. I call it cleaning my own house. And that is one of the Niyam, one of the personal things I have in my life when I was just a very little child. I used to call it self-survey. That’s why I have the guts if I give you a word over my dead body I won’t cross those words. I didn’t become a Sikh of the GuruGuru
That which takes us from ignorance to knowledge; from darkness, gu, to light, ru. It can be a person, a teaching, or in its most subtle form - the Word.
and Sikh of the Siri GuruGuru
That which takes us from ignorance to knowledge; from darkness, gu, to light, ru. It can be a person, a teaching, or in its most subtle form - the Word.
GranthGranth
Literally: knot: book.
, my training is such. I can self-survey myself. You know one thing? I will never try to lie but I’ll never tell you the truth. It’s a total self-survival. How I avoid it? Tell me how you avoid speaking the truth? When I am a spiritual teacher, I am supposed to tell the truth, tell me why? How I do it? You all have experience with me. Come on. Show me some intelligence. You are not all dumb, you know what I do. Come on.
Student: (-----)
YB: How I avoid what I know and how I do not tell you what I know but I still tell you and it’s not a lie. I never tell you the truth either. Neither you should because when you speak the truth raw handed it hurts. It’s the heaviest thing to do. So what is the situation that you can be truthful more or less and honest and not involve your ego into anything? Come on. Tell me how, you know you all deal with me, don't you one-way or the other? Yes?
Student: (-----)
YB: Yeah, that I know. That’s why I am always right.
(Students’ laughter)
Because your question has an answer in it and I can pick it up, that’s fine. But how I avoid not be a liar and not be super truthful?
Student: (-----)
YB: No, it won’t work. When you make suggestion you are trying to control.
Student: (-----)
YB: No, no, nothing works. Let me not waste your time, yeah go ahead.
Student: (-----)
YB: No, it won’t work either. Waste of time, come on.
Student: (-----)
YB: Oh I do it everyday, you are all blind what has gone wrong with you? It makes me mad.
Student: (-----)
YB: I have a compassion like a heaven and hell but I am not that compassionate that I know what I know and I tolerate. God, you know how much I know about a person? Unbelievable. Anybody can help me?
Student: (-----)
YB: Don't, don't waste my time. Talk comparatively. Tell them the pros and cons and just slightly push on the pros, that’s all. Very little.
(Students’ laughter)
Hey learn from me, I am the only American who is PhD in psychology of communication, everybody is a dumb in two hundred and fifty million people because we all talk and we do not know how to talk. Talking is talking, speaking is art and dialogue is the science. Listen to the situation, create a comparative study and just push that right situation. If you speak truth big truth, oh it is my truth, or it maybe God’s truth. People will run. They will be scared to death. Nobody wants to see himself and herself directly in the real mirror, everybody has a mask.
How many of you have read my book “Behind the mask?”
Students: (-----)
YB: Here you go. You got to read that book. You got to read that book for your own happiness sake. How many of you have read “mind and mental properties and projections?” All the two volumes. You know the problem is there are certain things you got to know, read, study and be with it. You will find lot of happiness, if you just understand. Those useless lectures, which you don’t have time to study, can totally change your life because to learn is to learn and become learned. So how you should study, come on, give me example, stand up. You, yeah and get to a microphone. Watch this. I want to make a practical workshop to it. There are lot of complaints about the food.
(Students’ laughter)
No, they are not; it’s a hypothetical situation. Don't get serious, you are already blown over.
(Students’ laughter)
Now, that’s not the question. There are lots of complaints about the food and there are lot of criticism of your cooking and lot of people hate you.
(Students’ laughter)
There are three things, one, two, three, step one two complaints and then three. Explain to them in your communication truthfully, you know the food is not well prepared and you know you can’t improve it, there are so many and you are one and talk to people here in a situation that they feel convinced it’s all right, come on.
(Students’ laughter)
Student: Well, we are trying very hard to work in this situation and provide everything that needs to be provided for. We make every attempt to keep everything clean and high in vibration, this is an institution in the sense we are dealing with numbers two hundred, two hundred and fifty. Several various programs and times and many facets come into this situation including the availability of what we have here in New Mexico. Sometimes we are very limited in the changes that we can make and with the facilities we have everything isn't always we can’t always tell whether something will burn up the stores, the timing isn't right and there are lot of things that we are pulling together, and we are continuing to work as hard as we can.
YB: You have appealed. That’s a very good appeal. All right, somebody else? Aah you? GuruGuru

Charan’s wife, get up. Take her place and convince people. Get up. Because I like to tell you how defectively you talk to your husband.
(Students’ laughter)
Yeah, yeah. Watch, watch, she is one example you all should watch, come on.
Student: On the same subject sir?
YB: Exact, subject is the same.
Student: Well, most of us know that as when we come to ladies’ camp, we are not here to get into food necessarily but to get healthy and work on ourselves and our self-discipline. So if you will just remember to take this opportunity to be grateful for the discipline that we have through the food, the opportunity to get healthier, to work on our digestive systems, I think you will appreciate what the Siri Singh SahibSiri Singh Sahib

is doing for us and come to more meals.
(Students’ laughter)
YB: You have heard her?
Students: (-----)
YB: She has totally manipulated and this communication is called ‘winning the game.’ Neither your complaints are heard nor your grievances are addressed, all she has used is use Siri Singh SahibSiri Singh Sahib

and tell you shut up.
(Students’ laughter)
Am I right?
Students: (-----)
YB: All right, I have lot of people. I am going to pick up different models, as I know. Sit down, sit down, don't worry. Just watch this, hey, come on Salem.
(Students’ laughter)
Oh no, no, I am just, it’s nothing wrong. It is helping and educating ourself, just participate. Don't worry. Yeah, to your height though, it is just turned, yeah, oh good. And don't worry, hey, you are just doing a duty, don't bother.
Student: So the food stinks!
(Students’ laughter)
Student: You should try working in this kitchen eight hours a day. We understand you don't have your cozy home and your own kitchen, and it’s very difficult to cook for two hundred and fifty people. Come up and cook anytime you like.
(Students’ laughter)
YB: No, no, I am not, I am not, she is not wrong; it’s a very simple thing to learn. Baltimore.
Student: I can honestly appreciate how what kind of changes we all go through with the food. It’s the bottom line as far as I am concerned. We go through our own changes about many things but when it comes down to the food it’s kind of the step before spirituality in my opinion.
(Students’ laughter)
And I think it’s hard on all of us. It’s also incredibly challenging to feed two hundred fifty people; with all the many needs we have with all the variances we have within ourselves. I can appreciate it; and we’ll try and do better up in the kitchen. SatSat

If you can offer any suggestions, any kind of positive feedback or suggestions that we can utilize, we will be happy to try them. We have been trying various ideas each year and each year changes and gets little different, sometimes we please one group of people one year and the next year those people are dissatisfied and we satisfy another area, and we are working to try to incorporate everyone’s needs with and also follow the guidelines as the Siri Singh SahibSiri Singh Sahib

YB: Come on. Now here comes the executive woman, watch this. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s not, the idea is not bad at all. Listen to this.
Student: Please sir please. Too much here. The food is yogic folks. It’s not supposed to taste fantastic.
(Students’ laughter)
Student: Okay. It’s supposed to work on your internal organ, your digestive system, and it’s put together by the Siri Singh SahibSiri Singh Sahib

. Now when he makes it alone in his kitchen, it’s for one or two people and it’s supposed to taste very different than when we make it for two hundred and fifty people. So we have to keep that in mind, the ingredients are different, the proportions are different, so we have to kind of go with the flow. But we are doing the best that we can and we hope that everybody will have a little more realistic expectations of the food, so kind of bear with it. YB: Well, this is the executive woman who is in Los Angeles Times; she is the senior officer of the sales division, so she didn’t give you a chance, you know. But that’s not the end of it; I have different variety to look into. You understood my finger? Good yeah, yeah, yeah, you, you. Watch out. Now, here goes the sense, come on, watch this.
Student: We have to appreciate that we are here as women going through change. And the best way to get to the emotions is through the stomach.
(Students’ laughter)
(Applause)
And so we have a spiritual master who has devised the plan to do that and get the best results in the least amount of time.
(Students’ laughter)
So we are going to appeal to your humor and respect for his plan and try to accommodate it.

YB: Food is food, good or bad, don't try to be rude.
(Students’ laughter)
Don’t separate, learn to appreciate. What do you think; you have come here in a five star hotel?
(Students’ laughter)
Or two star motel? Everything according to you is wrong and that’s you, sing a song, everything will be right. Tonight there shall be no food.
(Students’ laughter)
You know once I was the commanding officer and one day you know everybody complained, we used to have a mess committee, mess committee means there are certain representative and all that, and the mess committee said, “Food is no good, and this is no good and not good.”
I said, “Food? Food is no good?”
He said, “Yes.”
So I called the kitchen management. I said, “Burn the food today.”
(Students’ laughter)
And they did, and yeah, but I said, it is done, there is no difference. And I told everybody, I said, “Eat it and then also pack up with you on the move we are going and this is it. And if you don't appreciate it, it could be worst.”
You believe me or not, everybody pretended for four days the food is very tasty and really healthy and all that. So they thought in future they don't want to go through it.
Our mind is a variety of speculations and there is a basic fight in life. Mind versus you and you versus your own mind. There is nothing good and nothing bad, thinking makes it so. Your life is as good as your can figure it out and it’s as bad as you can drop it.
Do you know I have been in United States in twenty years, the only space I have got for my life is my working chair, but I was intelligent. I knew one cannot live in a chair. So thanks to Niagara I bought vibrating chair. Do you know that? And those days it used to cost six hundred and some dollars, now it costs two thousand and seven hundred dollars. That’s not the idea. But just understand something because I work, work, work, in the middle of the night when I feel like sleeping stretch the chair, put the blanket over, put the vibrators, have all the comfort and circulation, get up in the morning, take care of myself, get going. And if you don't have a king size bed, you can’t sleep. Do you know I make lot of money and I don't have? Never have spent on myself. That’s what I say, you do not know me. Do you know what people talk to me these days if somebody would have even put this face up, he would have lost the face, forget about speaking? And you know now people call me names and I say ‘oh thank you,’ actually what is the real problem?
Life is not what you have. Life is how much endurance you can have. People who are very great have great endurance. Yes, you all came out, you built because I was a heart patient, and I was to come out to New Mexico (?), you all participate, you built my living room and you built a beautiful bathroom, which I have hardly visited, but I think it is very pretty. I hope so, and my liver is good because I am very healthy, but you know what I thought of that when you built it up? I just started collecting every little present and wanted to make a mini museum for the little kids to enjoy it. You know what I am doing? I am just enduring to justify and glorify Siri Singh SahibSiri Singh Sahib

because the future generation be proud of it. I don't care whether they are proud of me or not. It doesn’t matter at all. Honest to God.
I have absolutely, absolutely not a iota of care what happens to me, but I do care a lot what happens to them, who they will look to? That’s why at first available chance I started teaching, first available chance I started talking to them. It doesn’t matter I live or die, but I have to leave for them a glorified memory, I have done my job. Don't worry who you are and what you are going through and what food is and what food is not. Good or bad doesn’t matter. Just remember how history will record you. Do you know Lord Krishna is considered God of the universe? His wife was Rukmini? And eighty whatever those Indian are, nobody cares, they all chant Radhe-Krishna, Radhe-Krishna, do you know GuruGuru
That which takes us from ignorance to knowledge; from darkness, gu, to light, ru. It can be a person, a teaching, or in its most subtle form - the Word.
Guru Nanak
First Guru of the Sikhs.
NanakGuru Nanak
First Guru of the Sikhs.
’s wife was Lakhni and the first person who became disciple was his own sister, Bebey Nanaki? You know how much respect she carries? Life is not the relationship, it’s the reverence. Who has reverence for who?
Relationship is a paper. The spirit is the reverence and love which can see, understand, feel, and talk is not love. It’s a logic of life. First thing in love is that you become blind. You see nothing, you hear nothing, you say nothing. Love is a strength, which gives you total numbness to action and reaction and you rise above all. When you say ‘I love you and you say I love so and so,’ and you talk about love, I know what you are talking about. Our life is based on inter-exchange of securities and our homes are stock exchanges and bidding is done morning till night. I don't only feel it, I experience it, I know it and that’s all it is.
You got to learn the art of living and science of life and you got to understand what love is. Love is a power, it’s power of God, it makes ordinary into ecstasy. It’s not a negative force. Love has no limit. Love has no orbit, love has no axle, love is a totality. You know what is the difference between a son and a student is? Son can argue, student can’t. You know in United States you all call, “Well, he is a teacher, he tells me what to do.” You know one thing; there are very few fortunate ones by the will of God who have a spiritual teacher. Without spiritual teacher car is without a steering wheel and without brakes.
It’s not a spiritual teacher that he become the great man of God and whole thing. You know, spiritual teacher is responsible here and hereafter? In this country you can’t even talk to anybody. They think everybody is a manipulator because that’s what they are. You know everybody wants to benefit from you and everybody wants you to benefit, spiritual teacher is the only one person… Test of a spiritual teacher, he will like to see your future is benefited. He paves the way for tomorrow and he gives you strength today and lets you forget the pain of yesterday. If he cannot do it, he is not a spiritual teacher. He is just another conman you met on the road. And I don't understand this word of yours, how can a man not have a spiritual teacher? Where we stop, who stop us?
It is considered inhuman today to obey a spiritual teacher. But do you know when I was with my spiritual teacher, I used to feel the test of my own intelligence and my grit and my strength and my logic and my reason and my totality if he can tell me something impossible and I can make it possible? It gave me courage, it gave me self-esteem, it gave me pride, it gave me self-knowledge, it gave the experience of ecstasy. I had a spiritual teacher, I worked with him, I knew him, and I am still proud of it.
You think spiritual teacher is just a donkey, when you jump on him, you have a ride and when you don't, you take a stick and kick him off. No, I tell you the law. In the heavens of God when God blesses somebody, he confronts face to face his spiritual teacher, you have the right to recognize or not and once you recognize somebody as a spiritual teacher, that’s the end of you and that’s the end of the spiritual teacher. And every human on this earth, good and bad, shall have one chance. I was lucky, I had that chance and I was grateful today to God, that I took it.
We do not even evaluate spirit, because we have no relationship with our soul, with our spirit, we think… What is a teacher? We think spiritual teacher is like a stock exchange advisor or who can read you certain scriptures. All dead wrong. Spiritual teacher is not a GuruGuru
That which takes us from ignorance to knowledge; from darkness, gu, to light, ru. It can be a person, a teaching, or in its most subtle form - the Word.
. Spiritual teacher gives you the understanding of the GuruGuru
That which takes us from ignorance to knowledge; from darkness, gu, to light, ru. It can be a person, a teaching, or in its most subtle form - the Word.
. He gives you the understanding of life, he gives you understanding of tomorrow, he gives you the understanding your totality and destiny. Spiritual teacher is an alma mater through which your courage can stand the test of time. It is in the western world, you think spiritual teacher is who takes money from you. Ha, what you can give to a spiritual teacher? He can give you kingdom here and hereafter. That’s just for the sake of saying.
Once you go deep, dive in your own spirit, you feel your love, you understand in heart, and you clear your head, you will really find what a spiritual teacher is. I was one fortunate person who had a spiritual teacher and I studied and I felt and I understood and I elevated myself. To me he was a staircase through which I would have been just an ordinary commotional neurotic man who would have been just thinking, just filling my belly, going to bathroom, taking a shower and saying few things here and there. Beyond that what is the life, tell me. What do you think life is about? Jerk and joke. That’s not life.
Life is a very powerful experience of that infinite fulfillment within a person. Do you know not a single one person among you can say that I have initiated you? All right, let’s take an example, you consider me a spiritual teacher. I maybe a most damn idiot, who cares? But do you know what happens? If somehow you happen to touch my feet, you bow, you bend, right? What comes out of me? Let us take I am a conman; let’s consider, a profile. I am a conman who is hypnotically making everybody sick and taking away your money and whatever you want to call it. But just listen, when you bow and touch my feet what I say? God be with you, bless you. And that blessing is not confronting, it’s not prayer, it is absolutely innocence. It’s automatic. Per record of our books I have earned and I have given. You sometime worry to give dasvandh, I have never seen money.
You know whenever I go to a teach a course or something, I come at the airport, who meets me? Remember her? Mama ShaktiShakti
The creative power and principle of existence itself. Without it nothing can manifest or bloom. It is feminine in nature.
. And first thing she says, “Thank you very much his holiness, where is the check?”

is a miracle. You know why I worked on it? Not for you. Not at all. But those little things, which are crying here and there, this one, that one, that one, that one, when they will walk on that road, they will say, ‘this is the home of the Khalsa.’ Not you. Those flags does not make me big man or a small man, that cannon doesn’t make me very defenseful. Those white dogs do not give me a feather in my cap. He said, “You intend to build a temple too?”
I said, “You bet.”
He ran in his taxi and just flied away.
People who visit the earth and do not leave the glory to stand and talk about them have lost their visit in vain, but those who create a glory in the name of the sender and the Creator for the comfort of the commoner, are the real sons and daughters of God. They do not sit on the right side and left side of God; they sit in the very bosom of the God, and that is human. That’s why in our prayer we say,
